Mayor Jim Ross Delivers Comprehensive City Update to ARBOR REALTORS®
Arlington Mayor Jim Ross joined ARBOR REALTORS® for a luncheon focused on Arlington’s continued growth, economic momentum, and long-term planning efforts. His remarks offered members a detailed look at how the City is positioning itself for sustainable development while maintaining fiscal responsibility and a strong quality of life for residents.
Mayor Ross shared updates on major economic development initiatives underway across Arlington, including continued investment in the Entertainment District, mixed-use and residential development opportunities, and efforts to attract and retain major employers and regional destinations. He emphasized that thoughtful density, strategic redevelopment, and long-term partnerships are central to Arlington’s ability to remain competitive in North Texas.
A significant portion of the update focused on the City’s financial stewardship. Jim Ross highlighted Arlington’s early payoff of AT&T Stadium bonds—retired 10 years ahead of schedule—resulting in approximately $150 million in taxpayer savings. He also shared that the City is on track to pay off Globe Life Field bonds 15 years early, with an anticipated $220 million in additional savings. Mayor Ross explained that these savings strengthen Arlington’s financial position and allow the City to reinvest in infrastructure, public safety, and future development projects without increasing the burden on residents.
The Mayor also addressed infrastructure and transportation challenges, with a particular focus on regional connectivity and the proposed high-speed rail linking Fort Worth, Arlington, and Dallas. He noted that the project faces significant hurdles due to the withdrawal of federal funding and the absence of state financial support, making private investment the most likely path forward. Despite these challenges, Mayor Ross emphasized that Arlington and Fort Worth have completed economic impact studies demonstrating that improved regional connectivity would drive economic growth, increase business activity, and benefit the entire North Texas region. He reiterated Arlington’s position that long-term transportation planning is essential to supporting major events, tourism, and continued development, especially as the city prepares for global events and increased regional demand.
Public safety and innovation were also key themes, with Mayor Ross outlining Arlington’s nationally recognized initiatives and continued investment in technology and emergency response. He credited collaboration, forward-thinking leadership, and community support as drivers behind the City’s recent successes.
ARBOR REALTORS® appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from Mayor Ross and gain insight into Arlington’s priorities and progress. The Association values its ongoing partnership with City leadership and looks forward to continued collaboration in support of responsible growth, strong neighborhoods, and a thriving local economy.
