RENTERS - BUYERS PLEASE BEWARE of this
Craig's List, Zillow
and Trulia Scams
Currently, scammers are taking legitimate property listings and
copying the information about the property to a real estate
listing on Craig's List. Most of the scams are for lease or
rental properties.
Scenario: they copy the information from a known MLS listing of
a For Sale property, enter the property on Craig's List as a
rental or For Lease. They then create a bogus email address
similar in name to the actual REALTOR Listing Agent to use in
the scam. When this email is contacted by you, the consumer,
they give you details about the property and ask for Application
Fees, Deposits and even first month's rent.
DO NOT necessarily trust Craig's List for Property Sales and
Rentals. Several local individuals have already been scammed for
good money. If in doubt, call a local REALTOR or real estate
company and ask them about the property. Most bona fide REALTORS
do not use Craig's List
